Because children today are growing up in a very technology-heavy world, it is much more difficult for them to develop healthy social and emotional skills and habits than it would have been twenty or thirty years ago.
They are staring at screens so much at home and at school that they begin to forget how to connect with other people and this can cause a lot of larger issues as they get older. To combat this, schools are now teaching social-emotional skills along with the technology that is already integrated into the lesson plans. This way, a child who is passionate about cars (for example) will learn to be able to talk to their peers about cars so that they can make friends with common interests.
Automated Tests
Back before computers were used in classrooms, all tests were taken via a pencil and paper and graded manually by a human being AKA the instructor. However, as tech has become more and more advanced over the years, it is now quite common to see automated tests being used. This means that students will type in their answers on a computer, tablet, or laptop. The grading process is usually done by the computer as well which frees up some of the instructor’s time.
However, it has come into question whether or not automated tests are a good idea. Some people think it may be easier to cheat on them while others think there is too much room for mistakes both on the students’ part and the computer programs. But since this type of testing is likely sticking around, you should get used to it if you or your child will be attending school anytime soon.
Cameras
Security cameras are becoming more and more commonplace in public areas, and this includes schools! Unfortunately, an increase in violence and crime has caused this to be necessary. It is good to have peace of mind knowing that if anything should happen, it will be easy to catch the perpetrators, but some people also worry about privacy.
